From New Jersey to Indiana: Finding Home in Westfield

We made the move from River Vale to Westfield one year ago today through the MakeMyMove program, and it’s been one of the best decisions our family has made. My wife and I, along with our two boys, were looking for a community that offered a better quality of life, great schools, more space, and a strong sense of community — and Westfield has exceeded our expectations in every way.

After spending most of our lives in New Jersey, the adjustment was surprisingly easy. People here have been incredibly welcoming, the community is family-oriented, and there’s always something going on for kids and families. We’ve loved exploring the parks, trails, local restaurants, and all the growth happening throughout the area. It really feels like a place that’s investing in families and the future.

One of the biggest surprises has been how much home you can get compared to the Northeast. My advice to future movers would be to spend time learning the different areas around Westfield, Carmel, and northern Indianapolis because each community has its own personality. The housing market can still move quickly, so having a local realtor who understands the area is a huge help.

For anyone considering a move, I’d say embrace it fully. Moving states with kids can feel overwhelming, but getting involved in the community early makes a huge difference. Sports, school events, parks, and local activities helped our family settle in quickly and meet great people.

A year later, we truly feel at home here, and we’re grateful we took the leap.
