Lincoln County is known as the "Post Rock Capital of Kansas". This has nothing to do with heavy metal music and everything to do with the unique native limestone found in the area. Due to a lack of trees on the prairie, early settlers built their homes, communities, churches and schools with the readily accessible stone.
