Getting Settled in Mobile

Moving to a new city comes with a few important tasks beyond finding a place to live. Whether you’re relocating from another state or elsewhere in Alabama, Mobile offers resources to help you establish residency, update important documents, and get familiar with local services.

Driver’s Licenses & Vehicle Registration

  • Alabama Driver’s License: New residents relocating from another state generally need to obtain an Alabama driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency.
  • Vehicle Registration: New Alabama residents generally must register their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency. Registration is handled through the Mobile County License Commission.

Local Government & Community Services

  • City of Mobile: Access information about city departments, public services, permits, and neighborhood resources.
  • Mobile County: Find information about county offices, property taxes, public records, and government services.
  • Voter Registration: Eligible residents can register to vote or update their voter registration information through Alabama’s Secretary of State.
