First established as a trading post, local lore claims Alpharetta took its name from a fictional Native American girl named Bright Alfarata in the song, “The Blue Juniata.” The founders also thought the name was appropriate, as Alpha is the first letter in the Greek alphabet. The city was officially established in 1858.
