Lancaster: FUN FACT

J.D. Hall, a historic city building, honors James Douglas Hall, Lancaster’s first African American assistant superintendent of education for the Lancaster Independent School District. Hall was also elected as the first African American trustee to the Dallas County Community College District in 1978. Today, Juneteenth celebrations take place in the Helen Giddings Amphitheater, a waterfront facility located in Lancaster Community Park.
