Located just 11 miles from downtown Minneapolis, Blaine is a safe, close-knit community with all the amenities of an major urban area.

Britt

Located in north-central Iowa, the city of Britt prides itself as a tight-knit community with a knack for hospitality and fellowship. Once a meager stop on the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul rail lines, Britt officially became a city in 1881. Today, more than 2,000 residents call Britt home. Brentwood

Known largely as an agricultural community just 55 miles east of San Francisco until the late 20th century, Brentwood, California, has become a bustling residential city experiencing rapid growth. Fortunately for produce lovers, the farming traditions have carried over, and the region is still known for its abundance of corn and stone fruits like peaches and cherries. Bluefield

Nestled along the Ridge and Valley Region of the Appalachian Mountains, Bluefield offers endless possibilities for outdoor recreation and exploration. Located more than 2,600 feet above sea level, Bluefield boasts unusually cool summer temperatures and proudly refers to itself as “Nature’s Air-Conditioned City.” This moderate climate provides the perfect backdrop to enjoy the annual Lemonade Festival, experience live music at the Bluefield Blues Festival, and catch a Bluefield Blue Jays game at Bowen Field. Billings

Billings, Montana truly offers a little something for everyone. As Montana’s largest city, with the greater metro-area population surpassing 180,000 people, Billings combines the rich cultures of the Yellowstone Valley with the vibe of a lively college town. The Billings area offers hundreds of acres of city parks, as well as 47 miles of dedicated walking and biking trails surrounding the city. Located in northeast Oklahoma, Broken Arrow offers small-town charm and a relaxed, suburban lifestyle. Ebensburg

Cambria County, Pennsylvania, is home to the metropolitan community of Johnstown along with several boroughs including Westmont, Northern Cambria, Elim, and Belmont, to name a few.

And, if it’s the big city vibe you’re craving, Pittsburg is just a 90-minute drive from downtown Johnstown. 

Bloomfield

Great things come in small towns! Davis County is home to the most involved and supportive community in the Midwest: Bloomfield, Iowa. Bloomfield is home to many sights, sounds and experiences that you simply can’t find anywhere else. Davis County is home to the most Amish families in the state of Iowa, and two large Amish stores, T-Corner Woodworking and Yoder Kountry Korner, offer a wide selection of Amish-made, hardwood furniture, quilts, crafts and other items. Want to get outdoors? Bag a 6-point buck (home to one of the largest in the USA), relax by the water with your family, enjoy a relaxing get-away at one of the local hotels or campgrounds, discover the county fair and festivals, relish our delicious food places and remember how life ought to be.

Meet the Amish of Davis County!

Davis County is home to the most Amish families in the state of Iowa. The Amish community in Davis County is located west of Bloomfield in the Drakesville and West Grove communities. The community consists of well-kept farms and thriving businesses.

Currently there are about 1,400 Old Order Amish living in Davis County. The first Amish family purchased farmland south of Drakesville in Davis County in 1971 after scouting around numerous communities for several years. Lower farmland prices and people who seemed friendly and accepting were draws to Davis County. Other reasons also led the Amish to choose Davis County. A quality hospital within driving distance with horse and buggy was essential. At that time Bloomfield also offered bus service and there were horse sales at the local sale barn.

Today, there about 300 Amish families in the county. By the fall of 2019, seventeen schools were educating about 400 children in grades one through eight. In 1972, after years of struggle, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in the case of Wisconsin vs Yoder that the Amish had the right to educate their children according to their religious beliefs without interference from the government.

The first Amish families that moved to the county made their living by farming, but they soon realized the soil in much of Davis County was not as fertile as the soil they had cultivated in other parts of the country. Gradually, family members began creating businesses especially where they saw a niche that was compatible with their craftsman skills and way of life. Today only about a dozen families make their living entirely by farming. There are over 90 businesses listed on the Amish Business Map that can be downloaded from the website or can be obtained at the Davis County Welcome Center on North Highway 63 in Bloomfield.
