When Neighbors Welcome You Within Hours: The Perry County Difference

Every community has a heartbeat, and ours just got a little stronger. Today, we're thrilled to introduce the newest faces in our Perry County family who've found their way home through our Makemymove Remote Worker Relocation Program.

Amanda & Jeff Hartlage (with their four-legged family member Luna) journeyed from Falls of Rough, Kentucky in search of that perfect piece of land and reliable fiber internet. What they found was so much more.

"As we searched for land, we fell in ♥️ with Tell City," Amanda shares. "We both grew up in Southern Indiana, so moving back felt like coming full circle. The quiet streets, thoughtful progress, and the Hoosier National Forest just minutes away captivated us immediately."

Their transition was smoothed by the warm welcome of our community – from patient realtors who helped them find their perfect spot, to local craftsmen who transformed their barn, to the friendly faces at Lock & Keel Pub & Grill, The Pour Haus, Fiesta Grande, The Post, and The Derby Tavern who kept them well-fed throughout their journey home.

For Erica Gilbert, who left the bustle of Midlothian, Illinois behind, Perry County offered exactly what she was seeking.

"I was attracted to Perry County's small town vibe and abundance of nature," she explains. "Coming from a larger city, I didn't expect to connect so quickly – but within just two hours of arriving, I'd already met both of my neighbors! This place is exactly what I was looking for: small city charm with nature at my back door."

These stories capture the essence of what makes Perry County special – not just our scenic landscapes or peaceful pace of life, but the genuine warmth that turns newcomers into neighbors almost overnight.

We're absolutely thrilled to add these wonderful people to our growing community. Their choice to make Perry County home reminds us all of the unique charm and character that makes this place so special.

After Years of Moving: Military Family Finds Their Forever Home in Perry County

Some moves are about more than just a new address - they’re about finding a place where you truly belong. 🏡

Today, we’re thrilled to welcome two new families who’ve chosen to make Perry County their forever home: the Stratmans - Candace, Daniel, and their daughters Izabelle, Evelyn, and Abigail - and Kaydean, who’s already found her rhythm in Tell City.

For Candace and Daniel, the search for a place to finally put down roots after years of Marine Corps moves led them here. “We’re both from Louisville, but wanted somewhere safer, friendlier, and close to family. Perry County checked every box: great schools, a safe community, affordable living, and Indiana’s veteran benefits. After so many moves, it’s a relief to know this is our last. Our girls are thriving, and we’re surrounded by kindness at every turn - from familiar faces at T C food & fuel and Los Amigos Mexican Grill, to the warm welcomes at Big Tales, Noble's IGA, and Lock & Keel Pub & Grill. Even our friends from across the country have fallen in love with this place!”

Candace adds, “Working remotely for a hospital, I needed fast, reliable internet, and PSC Fiber delivered-streaming, gaming, and work calls are all seamless. We’re grateful for the local MakeMyMove incentives and the support that made this transition smooth.”

Kaydean’s journey from Massachusetts brought more than just a change in scenery - it brought peace of mind. “Just by moving, I’m saving around $500 a month. My bills are lower, rent is affordable, and I have so much more space. There’s no traffic, and my neighbors are truly looking out for one another. Evenings at Sunrise Park and discovering local favorites like the buffet and Mexican restaurant have quickly become part of my routine. Perry County really does feel like home.”

Every new neighbor adds a new thread to the fabric of our community. Here, belonging isn’t just a word - it’s a way of life. The impact of each new family is felt everywhere, from the laughter in our parks to the smiles at our local businesses. It’s a joy to help each newcomer find their place and watch our community grow, one story at a time.

The Quality of People: Finding True Welcome in Rural Indiana

You never really know what “welcome” means until you land in a place like Perry County. This week, we’re excited to introduce two new neighbors: Robertico — pictured on the right in the photo with his son Derick — and Roshonda, who’s brought her own warmth and spirit from Georgia.

Robertico and Derick came to us from the Bronx trading the city’s constant buzz for quiet mornings, friendly nods, and a slower rhythm. Robertico still works his New York job remotely, but now he’s got room to breathe, sunsets to watch, and a community that feels invested in his story. He’s already dreaming bigger — hoping to dive into real estate, and savoring every new bite at local favorites like Fiesta Grande and The Patio Steakhouse. “I’m grateful for the peace, the people, and for PSC Fiber making sure I can stay connected to both old friends and new dreams.”

Then there’s Roshonda, who made her way from Georgia, looking for more than just a change of scenery. She found it in the small-town smiles, the gym like EverBody's Fun & Fitness Center where everyone says hello, and the kind of local events where strangers become friends. “Honestly, it’s the quality of people here in Tell City and Perry County that’s the best,” she told me. “Remote work gave me freedom, but this place gave me calm. The incentives made the move easier, but the community made me want to stay.”

Every new neighbor brings something real — new stories, new energy, and a reminder that what makes Perry County special isn’t just the landscape or the incentives. It’s the people.
